about

Like a Houses of the Holy merger between Led Zeppelin and Joy Division or Killing Joke. - The Province

Entertains the funereal procedures with the burning anguished power chords that push for something else out of the cruel world. Though the self-brutal flagellations are grueling, the anguish finds itself almost extinguished by the ever present mix of hooks that package the assemblage strings in an manner that points toward perhaps an unsung hope. - Impose Magazine

Heavier and darker than its post-rock first album, droning dance beats suggest the duo has been listening to more Killing Joke and British shoegaze bands like Ride. - Vancouver Sun

Every song plays the part of sophisticated art rock, inventive and beautiful, dark and spiritual. Perfect for the dark days of winter or the lonely, introspective hours between night and morning. It’s these periods of time where The Book of Hours can transcend mere accessibility. It will latch itself onto you and never let go. - The Even Ground

Their modern take on alternative/post-punk with a shoegaze edge is now gravitating away from the catchy energy of their early material in favor of consistently darker atmospheres, dominated by pulsing tempos that utilize a lot of excellently throbbing basslines and stripped down percussion—leaving plenty of room for assorted guitar textures to swirl in, out, and around alongside the generally soft singing. It's an approach that seems to have been increasing in popularity as of late, but Red Vienna is definitely operating in their own unique corner of this stylistic niche—relaxed and chilled out, ominous without being overly aggressive. There's a noir-ishness to it. - No Echo
